Improving Your Home Value

You Can Touch Up Your Kitchen Inexpensively

Your kitchen is the heart of your house. You spend a lot of time there making sure that your family has good food to eat. Because it is the heart of your house, you want to make sure that it looks and feels the way that you want. However, updating or redoing your kitchen can cost a lot of money. There are things that you can do that will change the way that your kitchen looks and works that won't completely empty your wallet.

Cabinets

There are a lot of things that you can do to your cabinets. Many of them are relatively inexpensive and easy to do.

  • Knobs: Switching our your knobs and drawer pulls is a very quick, easy, and inexpensive way to perk up your kitchen. All you need to switch everything out is a screwdriver and the new knobs. Some knobs need to have a slotted screwdriver, others need a Phillips head. A slotted screw just has one slot in the top of the screw. A Phillips head screw looks like a plus sign. If the screw is stripped and you can't get it out, try sticking a wide rubber band in between the screwdriver and the screw. It will give the screwdriver something to grab on to.
  • Paint: Painting your cabinets can really change the whole look of your house. Painting them lighter will bring more light into your kitchen. It can also make a small kitchen look bigger. If you decide to paint your cabinets, you will need to take the doors off the cabinets and all the hardware off the doors. If the cabinets have been painted before, you may have to scrap off loose paint and do some sanding to make sure that the surface is ready for new paint.

Appliances

New appliances cost a lot of money. Again, there are a few things that you can do to change up the look of your appliances.

  • Paint your refrigerator: You can actually paint your refrigerator. Since it is the biggest appliance in your kitchen, it's one of the things your eye is drawn to. You can paint it so that it looks like a stainless steel refrigerator. Or, you can try something completely different and paint it with blackboard chalk. If you have kids, a blackboard refrigerator will give them a place to color for you. If you just have adults in your house, a blackboard refrigerator will allow you to write notes to each other, or keep a running grocery list.

Updating your kitchen will make you feel more at home in your kitchen. If you don't have the money to completely update your kitchen, doing just a few things can really change the way it looks. Contact a business, such as Rynone Kitchen & Baths, for more information about remodeling.
